Terrestrial orchid making a late appearance
We've had many months of below average rainfall here in the Northern Tablelands of New South Wales. As a result many of the various species of terrestrial orchids that normally appear around the property have been missing these past several months. The terrestrial orchid in this photograph is a hyacinth orchid (probably Dipodium punctatum). They usually start to appear around October/November and are gone by late January. So it's was a surprise to find this one looking rather splendid in early February.
