Australasian swamphens on patrol
One of the dams on the property supports a small number of Australasian swamphens. There used to be 6 swamphens a handful of months ago, then 10, then 6, and now 11 or 12. There are a number of new youngsters again. The latter are more skittish than the adults and will run into the reeds when I pass by and thus the photograph only shows adults.
The dam itself is extremely low on water given that we've had several months of drought and no meaningful heavy rainfall to cause water to runoff into the dam.
